KELLYVILLE, Oklahoma (June 27, 2009) - For the second time this season the sprint cars raced topless at Creek County Speedway and that seemed to suit Evan Sewell and Kevin Cummings just fine. Racing without the top and nose wings on the open wheel sprints, Sewell led start-to-finish and Cummings turned in a career best second place finish.
As Sewell paced the field rookie Nathan Campbell gave chase for the first six laps. Cummings passed Campbell and chased after Sewell. But Sewell was not to be denied his second victory of the season and Cummings was not fall behind.

A yellow flag plagued modified feature only ran nine laps due to a 30-miniute time limit, but Chad Davis took advantage to win for the second time this season. Davis assumed the lead after leader Jason Redman dropped out before a lap four restart then turned back a bid by Ho Dean for win. Dean challenged on lap seven but Davis roared back out front to lead the remaining distance. Craig Chaffin finished third after leading the first two laps.

Mike Henderson seems to have the winning touch in the super stock division winning for the third straight week and sixth time for the season.
Henderson took command on lap two and pulled away. After the races Henderson's engine was puffed to check the cubic inches by track officials and was found to be legal.
Justin Green moved into second on lap three and Tommy Romine took over third two laps from the finish.

A wild mini stock feature finished with Justin Cartwright flipping after the checkered and Donnie Gramblin winning for the second time this season.
Cartwright was leading when he spun in turn one after a lap seven restart. Gramblin drove by with Michael Stucks following. In the closing laps Brett Fuller climbed into second and Cartwright hurried back to third. After the checkered waved Cartwright flipped several times in turns 1-2. Flames came up from under the hood and were quickly put out as Cartwright got out of the car. Cartwright was so happy to finish he ran to the flag stand waving at the grandstands. Cartwright grabbed the checkered flag and waved it for the fans to see.

Jerry Colby took the lead after four laps and went on to win his third pure stock feature. Johnny DeRamus was second ahead of Ed Gragg and lap one leader Billy Green who finished fourth.

Eric Barnes grabbed the Front Wheel Drive points lead with his sixth victory of the season. Barnes flew past early leader Toby Cooper who appeared to be slowing. Barnes stayed in command but Kimberly Bishop tried to close in but settled for second.

Saturday a large fireworks display will highlight a fourth of July edition of the weekly race card at Creek County Speedway. All classes will be racing with the evening capped off with a fireworks show.

Bates Stops Green in Sprint Feature

By John Rittenoure

KELLYVILLE, Oklahoma (June 20, 2009) - Saturday's sprint car A feature at Creek County Speedway did not end soon enough for Ricky Green of Sapulpa. The rookie was making a serious bid to win his first open wheel main event but defending track champ Brent Bates of Tulsa played the role of spoiler and came away with the 20-lap victory.
Green grabbed the early lead from his outside front row starting position over fellow rookie Nathan Campbell. Green set the pace for over half the race while Bates was working his way toward the front. Bates raced into second on lap six and reeled in Green on lap 13. The two ran wheel-to-wheel before Bates took away the lead down the front straightaway of lap 14. Bates went on to pick up his second victory of the season while Green finished a career best second. Jackie York passed Campbell for third and David Dutton rounded out the top five.

Regina Davis also lost a heart breaker coming within three laps of a first mini stock victory. But Regina got loose on the track with three laps remaining and former champion Kenny Grumadas drove around for the lead. Grumadas pulled away to win for the second time this season. Davis fell to fourth as Joshua Tyre and Jonathan Fisher went by for second and third.

Mike Henderson took advantage of a lapped car to take the lead away from Justin Green for his fifth super stock victory of the season.
Green led from the start with Henderson close behind. The two ran 1-2 until Henderson mounted a challenge on lap 14. But Green held his ground until he approached a lapped car on lap 17. Henderson shot down low and Green went high with the lapped car between them. Henderson came away with the lead entering turn three. Green was not able to challenge Henderson after that and settled for second. Defending champion Tommy Romine finished in third.

Phil Martin picked up his sixth victory of the season the pure stock main event. Billy Green led the first eight laps before Martin could find his way to the front. Martin passed Green on lap nine and led the final lap for the win. Amy Lewis also passed Green to finish second.

Matt French visited the winners circle for the fourth time in the modified division. French chased down early leader Craig Chaffin, after moving into second on lap four, and roared into the lead on lap seven. Leroy Cook, Jr. took over second after a lap nine restart.

Toby Cooper became a three time winner in the Front Wheel Drive class. Cooper passed Jerry Rodman for the lead on lap four then raced to victory over Eric Barnes.

The sprint division will remove their wings for the second time this season when racing resumes next Saturday at 7 p.m. It will be Mother Natures Exterminating Night at Creek County Speedway and Spiderman will make an appearance. All classes will be racing.

Sudduth Celebrates Birthday With Sprint Victory

By John Rittenoure

KELLYVILLE, Oklahoma (June 13, 2009) - Frank Sudduth celebrated his 18th birthday on Saturday at Creek County Speedway and what gift could be better then a victory the sprint A feature.
The teenager did just that winning for the third time this season and to add icing to the cake Sudduth moved into the division point lead.
Sudduth got his win by chasing down early leader Terry Easum. Sudduth challenged Easum in turn three on lap six and took over the lead in turn two of lap seven. Sudduth worked through lapped traffic for the win. Danny Smith passed Easum for second on lap 14 and Jamie Passmore took third away from Easum on the final lap.

Matt French became a three-time winner with an easy run in the modified 20-lapper. French roared out front after just three laps with Leroy Cook close behind. Jacob Stoll wheeled into second on lap nine before spinning on lap 13. Ho Dean took advantage to chase French to finish for the final six laps.

Mike Henderson seems to have the Creek County Speedway quarter mile figured out. Henderson had little trouble winning his fourth super stock feature out of six shows he has entered.
Henderson was in second by lap six and set his sights on leader Josh Jeffries. But on lap 12 Jeffries saw his night end as smoke poured from his race car. Henderson took over the lead and soon opened up a straightaway lead. Stacy Lee and Nathan Campbell battled for second in the closing laps before Lee finally took over the runner-up position with two laps remaining.

Defending mini stock champion Michael Stucks got back on the winning track with his second victory of the season. Stucks drove into the lead after a lap eight yellow which waved after early leader John Stowe, Jr. made contact with a car he was about to lap and bounced into the turn three wall. Donnie Gramblin chased Stucks until the final lap when Gramblin and Justin Cartwright tangled. That allowed Kenny Grumadas to finish second.

Phil Martin won for the fifth time in pure stocks. Martin led the final two laps to win over Amy Lewis and Randy Pierce.

Toby Cooper raced to his second Front Wheel Drive bomber feature of the season. Kimberly Bishop moved into second on lap seven but could not challenge for the lead. Eric Barnes finished in third.

All classes will be racing next Saturday. Gates open at 4 pm with the first green flag waving at 7.

                     Gerritson Wins Mini Stock Special

Jeff Gerritson drove off the pole to win the mini stock non-points special. However it was not an easy victory. Justin Coyle challenged for the lead for several laps and finally took the lead away on lap 18. But Gerritson charged back in front on a restart and led the final five laps. Justin Cartwright, Austin McSperitt and David Dutton rounded out the top five.

Weaver, Cooper Pick Up First Wins of 2009 on Saturday

By John Rittenoure

KELLYVILLE, Oklahoma (June 6, 2009) - Two drivers won for the second straight week and two others won for the first time in racing action at Creek County Speedway on Saturday.

With a total of 118 cars in the pits, Carl Lewis and Robert Scott picked up repeat victories while Waylon Weaver and Toby Cooper won for the first time this season. Ho Dean and Justin Cartwright also returned to victory lane.

Weaver led all but three laps to win his first sprint car feature over rookie Nathan Campbell. Weaver passed Campbell after three laps and was never really challenged over the final 17 laps. Campbell held onto second as the race heated up behind him. Brian Roberts followed in third most of the way until Danny Smith showed up on lap 18. Smith roared into third leaving Roberts with fourth. Brent Bates rouned out the top five.
Phillip Davis led the first two laps before giving way to Campbell. Davis eventually ended up finishing last in the 20-car field.

Cooper finally got untracked in the FWD division. Cooper chased down race leader Jerry Rodman and used a lap nine restart to take away the lead. Kimberly Bishop, who won her first feature two weeks ago, slipped by Rodman on the final lap for second. Rodman finished in third.

Yellow flags forced the super stock feature to be cut to 14 laps after the 20-minute time limit ran out. But it was just what Lewis needed for his second straight victory. A total of 13 yellows slowed the feature but Lewis moved into the lead on lap five then outran points leader Robert Scott and Kevin Hill for the win.

While Scott finished second in the super stock main he started his night off with his second straight pure stock win. Scott chased down early leader Ben Frey and took away the lead on lap five. Frey held on for second over a fast closing Phil Martin.

Jeff Gerritson tried setting the early pass in the mini stock feature, but a untimely spin handed the lead to Cartwright on the restart and he used it to win for the second time this season.
Gerritson led from the start with defending champion Michael Stucks running second. But on lap 11 Gerritson spin in turn three and everyone scrambled to avoid him. The yellow came out and Cartwright found himself in the lead on the restart. Brett Fuller battled past Stucks for second and Stucks finished the 20 laps in third.

Dean captured his third modified victory of the season. Nikki Armitage was the early leader before Dean challenged on lap seven. Dean shot into the lead just as the yellow waved on lap eight. On the restart Armitage was put back in front but Dean regained the lead a lap later. Justin Green worked his way up to finish second followed by Chad Davis in third and Jacob Stull settled for fourth.

All classes will be racing next Saturday. Gates open at 4 pm with the first green flag waving at 7.
