Sudduth, Folk, French, Colby, Eubanks, Weintz Win Fall Fling 2 Season Finale

KELLYVILLE, Okla. (Nov. 1, 2008) - Six classes plus a 100-lap Enduro brought the 2008 to a close Saturday at Creek County Speedway. Frank Sudduth, Justin Folk Jason Eubanks and Perry Colby won their first Creek County feature events while Matt French and Matt Weintz won again.
Sudduth saved the best for last as he won his first career sprint feature on the last night of the season. Sudduth jumped into the early lead only to give it up to past champion Roy Larkin on lap four. But Sudduth was not about settle for second and regained the front spot from Larkin on lap 12.
Folk made his first trip to Creek County in his number six modified and those in attendance will not soon forget. Folk was sporting a large sidebar wing on his modified and he led all 25-laps for the victory over Ho Dean.
Colby pulled off a rare feat as he outran 13-time winner Michael Stucks in the mini stock feature. Stucks led early but Colby got past in traffic on lap 11 and went on to victory. Stucks was second.
Only four front wheel drive competitors were on hand but Eubanks took advantage to win for the first time this season. Eubanks won over Samantha Huelsenbeck.
Weintz won for the second straight week in the pure stock division. Blake Davis set the pace for 13 laps before Dann Gray got by. However on lap 17 Weintz went high in turn four to take away the lead and Gray ended up second.
French drove away from B.J. Frohnapfel early in the super stock feature and opened up a good lead. But with two laps remaining Frohnapfel pulled up behind French and challenged for lead. Frohnapfel tried to regain the lead off the final turn but French held on.
Twenty-five cars entered the Chuckie Holmes Enduro 100 held after the nights final A feature. Tim and Joe Hatfield teamed up to win the race that was held in two 50-lap segments. The Hatfield's cruised into the lead in the final 20 laps and earned $1,000 for their win.

Fall Fling Gets Underway Saturday, Creekenduro 100 is Nov. 1
KELLYVILLE, Okla. (Oct. 19, 2008) - Saturday racing continues with the annual Fall Fling. All classes will be racing in this non-point event. Drivers will draw for heat race starting positions then advance into the A feature based on passing points. It will be "Run What You Brung" in all classes. On November 1, the 2008 season will close with the Chuckie Holmes Creekendruo 100. A 100-lap Enduro for rear wheel or front wheel drive cars will end the night with $1,000 going to the winner. The race will go 50 laps in one direction then 50 laps in the other direction. All regular classes will also be racing in another "Run What You Brung" event. Race time both nights is 6 p.m.

Larkin Returns to Winners Circle

KELLYVILLE, Okla. (Oct. 25, 2008) - Roy Larkin returned to Creek County Speedway for Saturday's Fall Fling and if there were any cobwebs from his 14-week retirement they did not show. Larkin took advantage of a lap 21 restart to charge around Frank Sudduth for the lead then turned back a challenge at the checkered flag to win a thrilling non-wing sprint car main event.
It was a night dominated by the Larkins as dad Len Larkin picked up the most passing points to earn the pole for the 25-lap feature. And Larkin took advantage by jumping out front on the start while 2008 champion Brent Bates and Sudduth battled for second. Sudduth finally got around Larkin on lap eight and Roy Larkin moved into second on lap 12. The race might have ended with Sudduth leading but a yellow flag with four laps remaining gave Larkin his chance. On the restart shot down low on Sudduth for the lead. Bates finished third behind Sudduth.
Randy Bailey benefited from Kevin Lacy's misfortune to win the modified feature. Lacy took the lead away from Jason Redman on lap 10 then set a strong pace with Bailey and Joel Hill following in second and third. On lap 20 Lacy suddenly lost power in turn three to bring out a yellow. This gave Bailey the lead and he never looked back. Lacy restarted on the rear and charged back to second on the final lap. Hill finished third.
Nathan Campbell turned back an final turn bid from Steve Wright to win the 25-lap super stock A feature. Campbell led start after a lap one yellow with pole sitter Wright staying close behind. On lap 21 Wright challenged but Campbell pulled back in front. On the final lap Wright pulled inside of Campbell down the backstretch and the two touched while running side by side in turn four. But Campbell held on leaving Wright with second.
Daniel Denton appeared to be on his way to victory in the mini stock feature. But with three laps remaining Orran Boyce drove past to earn his first feature victory. Denton drove off the outside front row into the lead on the start and was chased by Perry Colby, Sr. and Dee Denton. Dee raced into second after a lap eight restart with Boyce climbing to third. Boyce passed Denton for second on lap 13 and closed on Daniel Denton. On lap 22 Boyce pulled alongside and took away the lead. On the final turn Donnie Gramblin passed Daniel Denton for second.
Matt Weintz led the final 15 laps to win pure stock feature. Weintz passed early leader Terry Cook on lap 10 then outran Robert Scott and Dann Gray to the finish.
Slim Burklin cruised to victory in the front wheel driver 15-lap feature. Burklin passed Jason Eubanks for the lead on lap three and went on to win. Brittany Vierheller charged to a second place finish on the final lap.
The final race of the 2008 season gets underway at 6 p.m. Saturday with all classes running in another non-point show. The night will be capped off with the Chuckie Holmes Creekenduro 100. The enduro will be a $1,000 to win event with the first 50 laps run in one direction and the next 50 in the opposite direction. The large number of entries are expected for the winner take all event.

Bates, Cooper Capture Titles Sherrell, Davis, Green, Denton, Tyre, Duensing win final point features

KELLYVILLE, Okla. (Oct. 18, 2008) - One hundred twenty-three cars packed the pits for the final points show of 2008 and two more champions were crowned Saturday at Creek County Speedway. Brent Bates successfully defended his title in the sprint division while Toby Cooper earned his first career championship.
Bates entered the night needing just 12 more points to wrap up the championship and he got it. The defending champ had to race in the B main to earn his way in to the A feature then finished eighth to win over Frank Sudduth by 64 points.
Cooper entered the final front wheel drive show leading Raymond Tayloe by just 16 points. But Cooper got an unexpected break when Tayloe dropped out of the feature with mechanical problems and he won the title after finishing ninth.
The final sprint feature was won by Matt Sherrell. Sherrell roared into second on lap 12 and closed on leader Dean Drake, Jr. Drake slide a little in turn four of lap 17 and Sherrell drove by on the outside for his first victory of the season. Drake held on to second over a fast closing Mike Goodman who finished third. Nigel Calvert led the first six laps before giving way to Drake. Calvert fell to ninth at the finish.
Chad Davis led all 20-laps to win the modified feature over Randy Bailey. Davis was driving a modified from Muskogee carrying the number 89 and he drove off the outside front row into the early lead. Bailey followed closely all the way and challenged Davis in the closing laps only to finish second.
Justin Green pulled away from the field to win his second super stock feature of the season. Green passed Dustin Dixon for the lead on lap six and opened up a straightaway lead over Butch Baxter. Baxter closed some late in the race but settled for second just ahead of David Young in third.
Dee Denton outran Donnie Gramblin to win his third mini stock feature. Denton moved out front on lap four and set the pace as Gramblin worked his worked his way toward the front. Gramblin moved into second on lap 16 but could not catch Denton. Daniel Denton was third.
Joshua Tyre raced his way to the front twice then picked up his eighth FWD feature win. Bill Brashier was leading over Tyre when the two were involved in a mishap on lap eight. Tyre restarted at the rear then charged his way back toward the front and into the lead just before the laps ran out. Joseph Tubbs finished second after leading midway of the race.
Mark Duensing won his third pure stock main event. Randi Goins tried to challenge Duensing for the lead but spun sideways trying to pass and Duensing went on to victory over 2008 champion Ed Gragg.

Romine, Hughes, Stucks, Gragg Lock Up Titles Roberts, Bailey, Goins, Gramblin Pick up First Wins

KELLYVILLE, Okla. (Oct. 11, 2008) - Four season point championships were decided and four new feature winners emerged on what was the next to last points race of the season Saturday at Creek County Speedway. Mark Hughes, Tommy Romine, Michael Stucks and Ed Gragg went home with the point titles in their respective divisions while Brian Roberts, Randy Bailey, Randi Goins and Donnie Gramblin earned their first feature wins of the season.
Romine chased Matt French to a second place finish in the super stock feature to capture the crown with one week remaining in the 2008 season. French raced into the lead after a lap nine restart and stayed there to win for the sixth time this season. Romine Followed French over the final 11 laps unable to mount a challenge for the win, but the title was his.
Modified leader Mark Hughes and points runner-up had to borrow cars to race after they destroyed theirs in a grinding crash the week before. Henson drove a car belonging to Chad Davis to a sixth place finish while Hughes borrowed the number zero normally driven by Rusty Wiseley to finish seventh. While it was not a great finish for either driver, it was enough for Hughes to win another championship. Randy Bailey won for the first time this season leading 19 of 20 laps. Andy Morris and Ho Dean finished second and third.
Michael Stucks saw his thirteen race winning streak come to when he could not get around Donnie Gramblin. But a win was not needed to win the mini stock championship. Gramblin drove into the lead on lap five with Stucks in hot pursuit. In the closing laps Stucks tried high and low to get by, but Gramblin protected his line by driving in the middle of the track to capture his first victory.
Goins roared into the lead on lap on lap 10 to win her first career Creek County pure stock victory. Goins won over Dann Gray. Gragg finished fifth in the eight car field to win the crown over ten-time winner Michael Tyre II. Gragg captured the title with just one feature win to his credit.
Brent Bates leads the sprint car division but fell 12 points short of wrapping up the division crown with his fourth place finish. The night belonged to Roberts who led from the start and turned back Danny Smith on the final lap for the victory. Waylon Weaver held down second from lap four until lap 17 when he looped his sprinter in turn four. Smith took over the chase and closed on Roberts as the laps wound down. Smith was looking for away around but Roberts held his line for the win.
The front wheel drive bomber points race is going down to the final race as Toby Cooper will be trying to protect a 16-point lead over Raymond Tayloe going into this weeks final points race. Cooper finished sixth and Tayloe only managed to finish eleventh. But Cooper will have to finish strong to stop Tayloe. Joshua Tyre drove his way from the rear of the 16-car field to win his seventh FWD feature. Tyre arrived at the track after intermission and had to start on the rear in scratch position. But that was now problem for the Tyre who worked his way into the lead after only six laps.
The final points show of the season begins at 6 p.m. Saturday. Besides two titles to be decided it will be the final chance for drivers to improve their top 10 positions prior to the awards banquet.
Following Saturday's points show two specials are on tap for October 25 and November 1. All classes will run on the 25th in a open-competition non-points race. On November 1 all classes will run again in a open-competition show which will be topped off by a 100-lap winner take all Enduro. All cars entered will run in one race that will run 50 laps in one direction then reverse for the next 50. The winner will earn $1,000. Everyone else goes home with little to show except a good time. Race time for these two shows is 6 p.m.

Essary Stops Weaver in Sprint Feature

KELLYVILLE, Okla. (Oct. 4, 2008) - Waylon Weaver seemed to be on the verge of winning his first sprint car main event Saturday at Creek County Speedway. But with three laps remaining Rafe Essary spoiled the party passing Weaver and winning his first feature of the season. Weaver led the 22-car field to the green and set the pace with Essary following in second for 16 laps when a pair of yellows stopped the race. Weaver continued to lead on the restart then Essary alongside on lap 18 and took away the lead. Weaver finished second followed by Frank Sudduth and Mike Goodman in fourth.
A lap eight crash involving points leader Mark Hughes and runner-up Nick Henson caused some tense moments before Ho Dean raced to his second victory of the season. The backstretch crash resulted in Henson and Rusty Wiseley stradling the wall. Hughes was involved also. No one was hurt but the two point contenders were done for the night. Meanwhile Dean led all but two laps on the way to victory. Kevin Lacy gave chase but could not challenge Dean.
Michael Stucks spun then came back to win his fourteenth mini stock feature to keep his victory string intact. Just two laps into the 20-lap feature Stucks got sideways in turn four and came to a stop just inside the infield. Stucks restarted on the rear and climbed his way back into contention. Kevin McSperitt was leading as Stucks found his way into third. McSperitt and Brett Fuller were involved in a race for the lead and Fuller took over on lap seven. Fuller was still leading as Stucks climbed into third on lap 12. Fuller got sideways on lap 17 and Stucks slipped by Austin McSperitt and stormed into the lead with two laps to spare. Stucks went on to his thirteenth straight victory leaving Austin with second. Jeremiah Stevens moved up to third and Fuller held on to fourth.
Jimmy Owen outran points leader Tommy Romine to win his second super stock feature of the season. Owen took over the lead from Kevin Hill on lap 10 and went the distance. Romine dueled side-by-side with Robert Scott for five laps before pulling into second off the final turn. Scott was third.
Clent Southerland can't seem to do anything wrong lately as he raced to his third straight pure stock win. Southerland drove out front at the halfway point to win over Michael Tyre II.
Joshua Tyre became a six-time winner in the FWD Bomber division. Raymond Tayloe finished second to close within two points of series leader Toby Cooper with only two nights remaining on the 2008 points season. Cooper finished fifth to remain on top.
