Bates Tops McDonald For Third Non-Wing Sprint Victory

by John Rittenoure

KELLYVILLE, Oklahoma (September 26, 2009) - Brent Bates seems to be at his best when the wings come off the sprint cars. Saturday Bates won his fifth sprint feature of the season, but it was his third non-wing win of the season at Creek County Speedway.
Bates had to chase down Jamie McDonald to get the victory. On lap 16 Bates pulled up behind McDonald in traffic and there was some contact. Bates managed to exit turn four with the lead and McDonald held on for a season best second place finish.
Robert Claunch was the early leader followed by Len Larkin until lap eight. McDonald passed Larkin on lap seven then got by Claunch for the lead. Bates drove into second on lap 10 but did not close on McDonald until McDonald had a close call with Tommy Deckard who was trying to pull into the infield. Deckard came down on McDonald who was trying to pass. McDonald briefly got airborne but recovered with the lead. However that allowed Bates to challenge and eventually take the lead.

Bailey Battles To Modified Victory In First Night Out

Randy Bailey turned his first visit of the season to Creek County Speedway into a victory in the modified 20-lapper. But he had to survive a torrid battle with points leader Ho Dean to get the win.
Dean inherited the lead on a lap two restart after leader Larry Pense went to the pits with a flat. Bailey immediately pulled up to challenge and the two swapped the lead back and forth over the next eight laps until Dean exited to the pits as the yellow waved with a right rear flat. That allowed Bailey to race on to victory over Joel Hill. But Dean rejoined the race for the restart and quickly worked his way to fifth. On the final lap Dean was able to grab third place from Jacob Stoll.

Jeffries Races To First Super Stock Victory Of The Season

Josh Jeffries picked up his first win of the season in the super stock division. Johnny DeRamus drove out to an early lead in the main event as Jeffries worked his way into second on lap five. Points leader Brett Fuller was fourth but was protested before the race and declined to be torn down. Fuller was disqualified and the forfeited points dropped him from the points lead. Fourth place finisher Michael Stucks returned to the top spot.
Justin Cartwright was also protested and was still being checked as the results and points were being posted on the internet. If Cartwright should be found illegal results and points will then be adjusted later in the week.

Bishop had passed Brashier for the lead on lap 10 but gave it back with a half lap to go. Dusty Bryant finished second and Toby Cooper crossed the line in third. However Cooper thought he finished fourth and went to the pits instead of reporting to the infield tech area. That resulted in automatic disqualification and Slim Burklin moved up to third.

Story by John Rittenoure

KELLYVILLE, Oklahoma (September 19, 2009) - Zach Chappell of Talala gunned his sprinter into an early lead and never looked back to win the American Bank of Oklahoma ASCS Sooner Region 25-lap sprint car main event Saturday at Creek County Speedway.
Chappell started outside front row and beat pole sitter Michael Lang into the first turn on the start and led all the way on a track that was lightening fast due to recent rains. Sean McClelland got within a couple of car lengths but could not challenge Chappell and finished second. Matt Covington, Donnie Ray Crawford and series points leader Joe Wood, Jr. rounded out the top five.
The race got off to a rough start as two red flags in three attempts to start the race. Kenneth Walker turned over in turn two then a lap later J.P. Bailey flipped in turn three. Neither driver was hurt. On the restart Chappell continued to lead with McClelland giving chase. The two ran that way to the finish.

Gramblin pulled into the middle of things with a run to second on lap nine before a yellow put him back a spot. But three laps later Gramblin shot back into the lead with Tyre getting by Traster for second. The four battled close throughout the race with Tyre holding on to second ahead of Cartwright who finished third. Traster fell to fifth as points leader Brett Fuller moved up to fourth.

Barnes challenged on lap seven and drove into the lead on lap eight. On lap 11 Record was involved in a mishap that brought out the yellow. As racing resumed Redman continued out front with Dean charging into second. On lap 15 Dean briefly challenged but Redman held on until lap 16 when Redman pulled to a stop at the top of turn two.
