KELLYVILLE, Okla. (May 24, 2008) - Michael Tyre II and Toby Cooper won for the second straight week while Joel Hill, James Esmond and defending mini stock champion Kenny Grumadas found their way to the winners circle for the first time this season Saturday at Creek County Speedway.
Tyre benefited from a lap 14 yellow to race from fourth to a final lap victory in the pure stock feature. Hank Duensing led from the second lap and appeared headed for victory while Ed Gragg followed in second and Tyre in third. After a battle for Gragg early in the race for second Tyre soon found himself fighting to with Phil Martin for third. But with one lap remaining the rear bumper fell off Duensing's car to bring out the yellow. Duensing was sent to the rear putting Gragg into the lead. But Tyre charged around Gragg off the final turn to capture his third victory of the season. Meanwhile Duensing charged through traffic and passed Gragg on the final lap for second.
Cooper picked up his third front wheel drive win of the season with a strong run to the front. Raymond Tayloe led the first two laps before a yellow waved. Cooper used the restart to shoot into the lead and went the distance over Tayloe and Joseph Tubbs in third. The race was red flagged on lap nine after William Pearce flipped in turn two. Fortunately Pearce was not hurt.
Joel Hill made winning look easy in the 20-lap modified 'A' feature. Hill led from the start and stretched it out for his first victory of the season. Leroy Cook, Jr. passed Jason Redman for second after three laps and chased Hill to the checkered. Redman settled for third.
Grumadas has been winless in the first seven weeks of mini stock racing, but Saturday Grumadas looked as if he is getting back into championship form. The defending champ took over the front spot after four laps, turned back a lap seven challenge from Jerad Traster then outran points leader Carl Lewis in the closing laps for the victory. Justin Cartwright, who won just two weeks ago, raced to a third place finish.
James Esmond turned back all challengers to win in the super stock feature for the first time this season. But a little help from Daniel Pruitt did not hurt anything either. Pruitt moved into the lead on lap five after battling with Esmond till the yellow waved on lap 10. While pacing under the yellow smoke suddenly poured from under the hood of Pruitt's number six leaving a large slick spot on the track. Esmond inherited the lead and led Trent McBride when the red came out for the second flip of the night. Former champion Jimmy Owen glanced off the tractor tires against the backstretch fence coming out of turn two. The white number one camaro rolled over on its top causing a small fire under the hood. Owen escaped unharmed. After the restart Esmond led McBride, Nathan Campbell and points leader Robert Scott to the finish. Scott, the son of Owen, came into the night tied with Tommy Romine for the points lead. But Scott moved into sole command of the points lead after outrunning Romine in the feature. Romine finished sixth.
The sprints will be off again next Saturday when racing resumes at 7 p.m.

KELLYVILLE, Okla. (May 17, 2008) - Justin Cartwright won a torrid duel with Donnie Gramblin to win first mini stock feature of the season while five past winners found their way back to the winners circle again on Saturday night at Creek County Speedway.
Danny Smith cruised to his second sprint win, Kevin Lacy returned for only the second time to win again in the modifieds and Matt French, Michael Tyre II and Toby Cooper earned their second victories of the season.
Cody Cordell jumped into the early as the sprint car feature got underway. Cordell opened up a quick lead but Smith was not about to let him get away. Smith caught Cordell in lapped traffic on lap eight and pulled ahead in turn three for the lead. Points leader Roy Larkin caught Cordell on lap 17 and took over second leaving Cordell with third.
Lacy has only made two appearances at Creek County this season but he remains undefeated after winning the modified main. Lacy shot ahead of Jason Redman after two laps and raced to victory over Nick Henson.
Joe East battled with Donnie Wright early in the super stock feature but he was no match for Matt French. French sailed around East on lap seven to win his second feature of the season. Austin McSperitt took over second on lap 11 leaving East with third. Tommy Romine and B feature winner Trent McBride rounded out the top five.
Cartwright won for the first time in the mini stock division but it was no easy task. Gramblin moved out front early with Cartwright on his rear bumper. The two ran 1-2 until lap 10 when Cartwright pulled alongside. After two laps Gramblin pulled back in front. On laps 18 and 19 Cartwright challenged Gramblin at the finish line finally taking over the lead on the final lap.
Michael Tyre II drove a smooth race in winning his second pure stock feature. Tyre drove into the lead after one lap then stayed ahead of Hank Duensing for the win.
Toby Cooper won the front wheel drive feature after passing Joseph Tubbs for the lead on lap 12. Tubbs finished second.
The sprints will be off next Saturday when racing resumes at 7 p.m.
